InquireArusha National Park’s dense vegetation hosts great numbers of big game
…several primate species including the black&white colobus monkey, flamingo and numerous birds. Elephant are present although rather shy. Due to the resident big game in the forest and on the glades this ride is suitable for intermediate riders and for safety reasons we can not take beginners or novice riders.
The day ride will start at Ngongongare Gate and you will explore the lower part of the park. The main aim is scenery and game viewing from horseback and due to terrain and dense forest the riding pace will be rather slow. The route will take us over the Little Serengeti where usually buffalo, giraffe, zebra and antelope can be seen. We will ride into the forest and will enjoy a saddle snack picnic on a scenic place, thereafter we return on a slightly different route.
Makoa-Farm half- and full day rides are designed as scenic rides on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Riders of all abilities can join these rides. There is smaller, mostly nocturnal wildlife like duiker, bush pig, jackal, serval / genet and civet cat. However, these animals are rather shy and very difficult to spot. During the day there is a good chance of seeing Sykes or Vervet monkeys and Savannah baboon, also a variety of birds.
Half day and day rides can be confirmed individually from June to March – depending on availability of the required dates – with a minimum of 2 riders. Please inquire for your preferred dates.
General Information: We will cater for novice, intermediate and advanced riders. Novices and beginners can join short riding trips inside Makoa-Farm only.
Rides outside Makoa-Farm require prior experience in riding over rough terrain as during the rides we may cross valleys, rivers with seasonally strong current and dry river beds.
Important for Arusha National Park: You need to be able to react to the movement of wildlife which may startle the horse. You may also be required to gallop out of trouble so the minimum ability for these rides are ‘Intermediate’.
It will be at the discretion of the company whether you will be permitted to ride, taking into consideration the safety and enjoyment of the group as a whole.
For a reservation please let us know your riders details. The details should include age, size (length), weight and information regarding your prior riding experience. Please let us know more info you might regard to be important. Some of the routes require leading the horses (e.g. steep valleys) so riders should be physically fit.
